Calleri over Fletcher?
I love Slav and all that, but am continuously mystified why he keeps bringing Calleri on instead of Fletcher.

Not sure what Calleri brings, and he's not going to be here next season. Fletcher is better (IMHO) and is our player.

Agree with..
FCJkt...Mex...Bernie...

Give him a chance...better than what I've seen from Fletcher...and Calleri has improved on each game...

Just needs to cut out the tricky flicks and backheels near goal and SHOOT...on target...leave the tricks to later...

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
We could give Calleri a proper chance in a brand new country, one where he probably doesn't speak the language, has been injured and his manager has already stated he's struggled to settle

I know it's not the way in this I WANT IT NOW society, but maybe, just maybe we could give this bloke a decent chance?

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Yes Texas, good point, Tevez and Mascherano struggled to make an impact for us and mascherano never even got enough time to get used to playing in the prem and was shipped out having never really played (partly due to the complication of ownership). For me mascherano was the better player and I think that shows in his career, probably has more time than most of their squad playing for Barca. Really amazing to think we had probably one of the best defensive players in the world and never used him!

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri looks unhappy. I think he's technically decent and makes good runs but isn't physically strong enough for the PL. Hasn't performed well under pressure.
Fletcher looks way out of his depth for me. I'm not seeing enough in his game to warrant first team game time. Doesn't seem to have blistering pace, movement or amazing technique. I don't want to be harsh on the lad as he is still young and has time on his side but he's not ready for this level yet.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Not comparing him to Tevez...just saying he's had little time relatively ...to show what he can do...

But many folks forget it took Tevez a long time to get acclimatized to UK and Prem football...19 games before a goal...

And scored 7 in 26...PL

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Texas, Are you comparing him to Tevez?
Even when he wasn't scoring the quality of Tevez was obvious and it was only a matter of time.
Callieri is just plain not up to it and I have seen nothing to suggest that will change.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Toni Martinez on yesterday's performance should be above these two. That was his first chance up front for Oxford after playing wide right in his earlier matches and he looked the part against PL defenders. But why did Appleton sub him late on when Oxford looked on top? Within a minute Borough got their winner.

Remember folks...

Tevez went 19 games before scoring for West Ham...

Calleri has had around 200 minutes on the pitch...with one goal...

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
On what I have seen, like most I prefer Fletcher, but really we have seen very little and should keep open minds. Really need to see some full games, not just a few minutes at the end of a game. It is tough though, may be they do not get that chance...

Tex,

Without clicking the link, are the five things:

1) He's shit
2) He's shit
3) He's shit
4) His favourite colour is red
5) He's shit

By any chance?

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri is a-Kia Joorabchian "slave"...

Beware 3rd party ownership etc etc...like Tevez...

And he's nowhere as good...

But remember how long it took for Tevez to reach top form with us...

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I'd give Fletcher more of a chance as I think bigger players like him need a bit more time to develop,
I guess someone like Kane who was completely shit until he suddenly clicked is the role model.
I'd want to know what he is like in training ... is he just rolling along or is he working relentlessly to improve like Kane supposedly was.

Mentioned before we have some big decisions to make about strikers in the summer .... we have two talented senior strikers in Carroll and Sahko but they have abysmal fitness records.
Calleri will go back but hopefully one or both of Fletcher and Martinez will progress.
And what about Defoe?
And this mythical 20 goal a season player Sullivan keeps telling us is near.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Neither is good enough and I doubt if they ever will be. It would be great if Fletcher in particular could step up and provide a longer term option up front but I see a Championship level player at best. Still a decent level but not quite the top level like so many in the past (e.g. Sam Baldock, Dwight Gayle etc). I would wager that both will be gone within 18 months. United did not put up much of a fight to keep him and they would not have let his contract expire or not renew it if they felt there was more than a reasonable chance he would make it to the top. Just my opinion and hope they prove me wrong.

Martinez is the next hope.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri is irredeemably shit - so Fletcher every time, non arguement

But, Spanish Tony scored yet again today in the cup, now he is definitely one to watch, shame he did not get a spin

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Not sure why Calleri gets ahead of Fletcher, he doesn't look good enough, Fletcher is a least quick and shows promise.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri is garbage. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be sectioned.
Fletcher looks like a decent footballer but I'm not sure he's really a genuine, instinctive striker and don't expect him to make much of an impact as one.

So if he looked good, as good as Lanzini say, and we made a £5m bid, you're telling me he and his club would both hold out for more money and potentially a better club? Obviously I concede that If he set the world alight, the big clubs wouldn't have taken long to start sniffing around, but given that that is unlikely, I don't see a problem with what we are doing, as ultimately we will know more about him that any other club.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I think the issue is that Fletcher is ours and we should be investing in him and Callieri is a loan that will be back on the night boat to Caracas or wherever he comes from pretty soon.

I'd like to see Fletcher get a season loan in the Championship next year at a club where he is likely to play, Callieri surely must go in the summer, he's not up to it.
